Secretary of YELA Group at the MIC retreat

Dr. Tholman Alik, Secretary of Kosrae's Yela Environmental Landowners Authority (YELA) has accepted the invitation to join the MIC members in Saipan. The mission of the YELA group is "to protect the world’s only remaining Ka forest (Terminalia carolinensis)" through the mitigation of road building efforts and ultimately, through full conservation of the forest and surrounding areas. A few years ago the Ka forest was identified as a Priority Action Area of Biological Significance during the assessment of biodiversity in the Federated States of Micronesia. The YELA group is formed by the 13 families that own the forest.
